Exciting news for the Gray’s Green community! A new playground is on its way, promising to bring joy to children’s faces.
Bonnie Floyd Ministries and the One Desk Foundation have worked tirelessly to make this project a reality.
Spanning six acres of land in Cooks New Extension, the playground’s construction was inspired by the success of Bonnie Floyd Ministries’ previous project in Barbuda.
The organization recognized these playgrounds’ positive impact on communities and was determined to bring the same joy to Antigua.
The One Desk Foundation generously funded this project after ‘Kids Around the World’ informed Bonnie Floyd Ministries about their interest in funding a new playground on the island.
Volunteers have been working collaboratively to build the adventure playground, which is now nearing completion. One Desk’s executive officer, Luke Beisinger, expressed his motivation for this initiative, stating that the foundation aims to support countries with fewer resources and extend help to those in need beyond his homeland of America.
Beisinger’s hard work over the summer primarily sourced the project’s funding.
As a junior at Walt Whitman High School in Maryland, he conducted swimming lessons at his local pool and generously donated 20 percent of his earnings to the playground project. The total funds raised amount to over $25,000.
The One Desk Foundation is a not-for-profit organization established in 2010 to transform the lives of millions of children in underprivileged communities by focusing on academic excellence and character development.
The playground’s construction is durable, consisting of over 40 concrete-anchored poles that ensure stability.
Floyd notes that the Barbuda playground is still strong after over a year of use. In fact, she believes that adults could use it too.
The playground will be completed by this weekend and fenced afterward.
