Antigua and Barbuda Lifts Covid-19 Protocols for Arriving Passengers

The Gaston Browne-led Cabinet has decided to lift all Covid-19 restrictions for passengers arriving by air.

The decision was taken after hours of deliberation on Wednesday.
Chief of Staff Lionel Max Hurst said in his weekly Cabinet notes released Thursday morning, that concerning passengers arriving aboard cruise ships, “the Cabinet has decided to adhere to the protocols enforced by the cruise lines until the cruise lines themselves alter their protocols”.

He said the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will publish an updated Travel Advisory and the newly revised rules that will become effective shortly after publication.

Meanwhile, Tourism Minister Charles Max Fernandez says the latest decision is a plus for the industry.

“What I have seen is that by and large people believe now that Covid is no longer a death sentence and people are becoming more accustomed to living with it. I think once you’ve reached that point, a number of these measures are not necessary,” Fernandez said.

He said however through protocols have been restricted, people with health conditions should still wear masks and wash their hands regularly when traveling to the island.
