It’s not every day a police officer gets promoted while in a hospital bed. Except for Telon Perreira, the presidential guard who was stagged last week.

Perreira who was stabbed five times by a Nigerian national, who stormed State House, has been promoted to the rank of Corporal.

According to reports, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Dr. Irfaan Ali, and Commissioner of Police (ag), Clifton Hicken visited the injured rank at his hospital bed and promoted him. Dr Ali praised the rank for his bravery and courage.

Corporal Perreira told the President he is eager to return to work.

On December 15, Corporal Perreira was stabbed during a struggle with the Nigerian national who had confronted the security detail at State House and said “I want the President.’

The suspect was shot and injured during the incident.

In its last update, the Guyana Police Force had stated that the Nigerian national was on a ventilator.
