Lieutenant Colonel Trevor Pennyfeather has outlined his vision for the prison, telling staff that it will be fully reorganized and restructured in a way to make Antigua and Barbuda’s prison an example in the region.

Pennyfeather met with some staff and other personnel of His Majesty’s Prison at the Multi-Purpose Center on Saturday, ahead of the official start of his duties as Prison Superintendent.

Minister Responsible for Prisons Steadroy Benjamin told State-owned ABS Television last night that Pennyfeather told his officers that while on the job, their sole role is to ensure the sanctity of the institution at all times.

“Officers also pledged their full support to Pennyfeather. He spoke with them and told them what he expects from them…He explained that he is there for them and many training programs will be planned,”

Benjamin said Pennyfeather also told officers that focus will be placed on rehabilitation as well.

“He thinks the prison is there to make certain that when persons are discharged, they are reintegrated into society…It was a fantastic meeting, very cordial and very respectful,” Benjamin added
