Sonja Henry, the mother of one who had her legs and pelvis crushed during a political event leading up to the general elections, is expected to be flown abroad for further medical attention. The government said it would meet her travel and treatment costs.

Henry, 25- has been at the hospital since the tragic January 15 accident.

After undergoing several surgeries, the Bolans woman has reached the recovery stage that will enable her to be sent abroad.

What happened?

According to onlookers, Henry along with several other passengers jumped from a truck in the Fig Tree Drive area during the ABLP Mega-Cade.

“The truck was going down Fig Tree drive and the truck started to slide and everybody jumped off the truck. After they jumped off the truck, the driver was trying to avoid either hitting the lamp post or going into a ditch and it ran over her,” an eyewitness told our newsroom.

“It was so sad. Her legs were crushed and bleeding. Everybody had to take off their t-shirt and try and wrap up her legs. Luckily a police and a nurse were there. They looked about her until the ambulance came,” the eyewitness said.

Family and friends have organized a fundraising activity carded for February 26 at the Bolands Playing Field, an all-day activity including breakfast, lunch, and a football match.

The 25-year-old said her doctors were confident that she would be able to walk again but it will take some time as she will have to undergo physiotherapy.
