In 2020, the Directorate of Gender Affairs (DoGA) within the Ministry of Social Transformation, Human Resource Development, Youth, and Gender Affairs honoured 25 women and one private-sector agency for their outstanding service to the nation of Antigua & Barbuda at the Women of Wadadli Awards Gala.

The government has recommitted to the continued strengthening and advancement of women in Antigua and Barbuda.

Today is International Women’s Day under the theme DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality”.

Gender Affairs Minister E.P Chet Greene said his ministry is also committed to strengthening its efforts to advance the dignity, equality, and safety of women and girls.

Greene said the theme for this year’s observance meshes with two of the Government’s fundamental programs. 

“These are to further develop and expand the national digital and broadband network to promote social progress, equality, and sustainability; and to advance recognition and respect for women and the crucial role that they play in all aspects of our nation’s life. Financial empowerment and economic inclusion of women are one of the keys to our sustainable development,” Greene said in an address to observe International Women’s Day.

Greene said that is why the government continues to actively promote women’s entrepreneurship; land ownership; higher education; job opportunities at all levels; equal pay; and participation in political life.

“It is a source of pride that our largest banks are headed by women, and that women occupy most of the senior public service positions in our government. We have also firmly set a policy to end all forms of violence against women, including domestic violence and technology-facilitated gender-based violence, such as image abuse and efforts to discredit women,” Greene noted
