An American tourist living in Turks and Caicos Island was stabbed by a Haitian national according to police there, who said that the man was also arrested and charged.
The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) said Santos Charles allegedly attacked the 48-year-old tourist with a knife. The attack happened during a confrontation in the vicinity of Salt Mills, Grace Bay.
Thankfully the tourist did not die. He was treated at the hospital and his attacker was arrested at the scene
Police Trevor Botting, the Commissioner of police said the attack was the second act of aggression allegedly carried out by the man within a 24-hour period.
“I can confirm that he had been in police custody overnight, having been involved in an unrelated incident at a resort where he caused a disturbance. I have ordered an internal review of the arrest, detention, and subsequent release of Mr. Charles following the incident at the resort last night. I am aware of the speculation being circulated in various chat groups and social media outlets, however, be assured that the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force will continue investigations into the factual circumstances surrounding the incident.”
Botting also called on witnesses to come forward and assist police with their investigation.
