Tourism Minister says his wife never “dined for free” during Restaurant Week promotion

Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez is refuting claims that his wife Jill has been eating at various restaurants; to promote Restaurant Week and not paying for the meals.

A talk show host on a popular morning program claimed that Fernandez’s wife has been restaurant hopping with friends and family free of charge

But in defense of his spouse, the tourism minister said nothing could be further from the truth

He tells Antigua.news that indeed, while he was away, his wife patronized several local restaurants with her friends in support of Restaurant Week but paid for meals in full.

“I want to applaud my wife because while I was away, for a number of days, she visited restaurants to promote the event and took her friends and family with her and she paid all her bills. I want to make it abundantly clear that my wife has always paid all her bills,” he said.

Fernandez is encouraging all residents to patronize local restaurants as part of the ongoing activities to celebrate Restaurant Week from May 7 to 21, 2023,

This new annual event has been designed to showcase the best the twin island has to offer in culinary – from favorite local casual hotspots to three-course menus at the best restaurants on the islands.

Local chefs will be showcasing their best work alongside celebrity chefs from around the world.
