Natural green spaces were restored in the Barnes Hill Community, thanks to Sandals Grande Antigua and the Barnes Hill Community Development Organization (BHCDO)

On Saturday, the team went to the Barnes Hill Reservoir and community park which historically has been around for 129 years.

What was used as a decorative garden for relaxation and hosting events have over the years been in a state of disrepair for years.

But now, BHDCO says its renovation is now a priority, starting with cleanup activities; the first phase of restoration plans.

BHCDO President Kamaule Defreitas used the weekend activity to call for greater support from the wider community in restoring the space.

Defreitas said the plans for the area include the “completion of a multi-use building that will serve as offices, conference facilities, and storerooms. A park beautification plan is also being looked at. This will include the planting of trees and ornamental plants, restoration of the fish pond and the introduction of a butterfly garden”.

  1. Prime example of what can be done when people band together instead of relying in the government to do everything. Imagine how much more beautiful Antigua would be if every village did this. Start by getting rid of all the old abandoned vehicles in bushes and parked on the road sides. Maybe form committees and sell them to the scrapyard as a source of funds for said committes?
