The body of Andre Simon returned home today and his family was greeted with a warm welcome at the V.C Bird International Airport We captured some of the moments.

The national cyclist died on June 8 and was transported from the airport to the Barnes Funeral home ahead of the Thanksgiving service to be held on July 10 at the St John’s Pentecostal House of Restoration.

His body was accompanied on the journey by a convoy comprising friends, supporters, well-wishers, and his fellow cycling colleagues who will all gather at the former Pan Am Base in Coolidge from around 4 pm today.

Simon was seriously injured in a horrific accident on Mother’s Day last year when a motorist slammed into him and Sean Weathered, Ghere Coates, and Tiziano Rosignoli. on Sir George Walter Highway.

The three others received minor injuries and were treated and discharged However, Simon was left in a critical condition.

Simon spent several weeks in the Intensive Care Unit at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre before being taken to Texas for specialist treatment.

While hospitalized in the US he faced several ups and downs and also improvements which provided hope he would have made a full recovery.

Kenyatta Benjamin of Hatton is facing charges in connection with the incident.
