Don; the first hurricane of the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season has formed.
At 5 pm, the center of Don was located near latitude 40.1 North, longitude 50.0 West. Don is moving toward the north near 12 mph (19 km/h), according to the US National Hurricane.
The NHC said Don is expected to turn northeastward tonight or early Sunday, and a northeastward to east-northeastward motion should continue until the system dissipates. They are predicting that by Monday night or early Tuesday, Don will disintegrate.
According to the NHC, Don is carrying maximum sustained winds of 75 mph with higher gusts and Don is forecast to become a post-tropical cyclone Sunday night, as it continues to weaken
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 15 miles (30 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km), according to the NHC.
There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect and Don is not posing any threats to the islands
