The Deputy Premier and Minister for Financial Services, Labour, and Trade in the British Virgin Islands, Lorna Smith, has announced plans to remove the visa requirement for citizens of Guyana.

This decision was made during her trade mission to Guyana, where she had discussions with the Premier regarding the visa situation.

The Premier has authorized Smith to inform the public that the government is considering lifting the requirement soon.

Smith believes that the visa requirement must be lifted to strengthen the partnership between the two countries.

Guyana’s economy has grown due to its oil reserves, and there have been calls for the BVI to lift visa restrictions against Guyana.

According to the 2010 Population and Housing Census report, Guyanese nationals make up the largest portion of the immigrant population in the BVI at 7.2%.

Guyanese citizens are among a few Caribbean nationals who require visas to visit the territory, including Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Jamaica.
