Starting today Saturday, the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF) will celebrate their 42nd Anniversary with a series of events that will end on September 2nd.
This event, known as the Field’s Week of Activities, will showcase the skills, capabilities, and talents of the ABDF members. The public is invited to join in the celebration of this milestone and witness the camaraderie and brotherhood of the force.
Today, there will be a Family Fun Day at Camp Blizzard from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event will include a BBQ, Sound Clash, Car Show, and fun activities for children and people of all ages. On Sunday, members of the force will attend the Swetes Wesleyan Holiness Church.
Monday’s activities will start with the traditional 16-mile relay, which begins at 5 a.m. at Long Bay Beach and ends at Camp Blizzard. Four teams of eight people each will compete, representing different Houses named after past Commanders and Sergeant Majors of the Force, including Herman Blackman, Dannie Nicholas, Maurice James, and Llewelyn Haywood.
The winning team will be crowned the 2023 16-Mile Relay Champions. Additionally, there will be a community outreach project at the Fiennes Institute, where members of the Force will spend the day with the elderly, assisting with meals and presenting donations and care packages. More activities are planned for the remaining days of the week, and everyone is welcome to join in the celebration.
