The Chief Environment Officer, Ambassador Diann Black-Layne, has expressed concern about the potential increase in violent behavior during high temperatures.

She cited the United States as an example, where authorities are reportedly preparing for a rise in crime due to the heat.

Black-Layne emphasized the link between heat and aggression and mentioned that talks have been held with the Minister of Health to mitigate the effects of the situation.

People living near the equator are reportedly migrating to cooler countries in the north due to the heat, and governments in common migration hotspots are providing climate change-related assistance to reduce emissions and curb migration levels.

Climate change, caused by the burning of fossil fuels, has led to a long-term shift in temperatures and weather patterns.

The last decade has been the warmest on record, with the earth’s average surface temperature now approximately 1.1°C warmer than the late 1800s.
