Antigua: 4 students vie for top honors at 2023 CSEC

2 September 2023 - 10:07

According to CXC’s Country Registrar Myrick Smith, four candidates are currently being considered for the title of Antigua and Barbuda’s top student at the 2023 Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate (CSEC).

During the Education Prime Time program on the Antigua Broadcast Service, it was revealed that the top two students are from St. Joseph’s Academy, while the third-place students are pupils of the Baptist Academy.

These students wrote an average of 20 subjects, with the current first-place student having written 23 subjects and receiving 20 Grade Ones and three Grade Twos. The second-place student wrote 26 subjects and received 19 Grade Ones, six Grade Twos and one Grade Three.

The third-placed students received 17 Grade Ones, two Grade Twos and one ungraded mark. However, the top students cannot be revealed at this time as they have the opportunity to query their grades, and there is a chance that the student currently identified as the top performer could change.

Smith explained that the criteria used include having the highest number of ones. Adrian Judnarine, whose parents confirmed he received the second-highest number of passes this year, achieved Grade Ones in subjects such as Math, Physics, Chemistry, Principals of Accounts, Biology, and Food, Nutrition and Health.
