Sandals Grande Antigua receives ‘Caribbean’s Most Romantic Resort’ Title at 2023 World Travel Awards

By Zaya Wiliams

In a victory for Antigua and Barbuda, Sandals Grande Antigua claimed the prestigious title of “Caribbean’s Most Romantic Resort for 2023” at this year’s World Travel Awards.

This achievement places the twin-island nation in the spotlight, as Sandals Grande Antigua surpassed renowned competitors such as Amanyara and COMO Parrot Cay in Turks & Caicos, the Four Seasons Resort Nevis, the Rosewood Le Guanahi in St. Barth, and The Ocean Club in the Dominican Republic within the Caribbean category.

Matthew Cornall, the General Manager, had the honor of attending the award ceremony, which was held at Sandals Grande St Lucia. He briefly addressed the media following the trophy presentation.

Although Antiguan brands received nominations in various categories, some did not secure victories in this year’s competition. Notable nominations included the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority (in the category of Caribbean’s Leading Tourist Board), Jumby Bay Island (in the Caribbean’s Leading Boutique Resort category), and Stingray City (in the Caribbean’s Leading Adventure Tourist Attraction category).

While Antigua and Barbuda received nominations for Caribbean’s Leading Beach and Honeymoon Destination, these titles were ultimately awarded to Turks & Caicos and St Lucia, respectively.

Jamaica emerged as the standout winner of the evening, clinching several prestigious awards, including “Caribbean’s Leading Destination,” “Caribbean’s Leading Cruise Port,” and “Caribbean’s Leading Airport.” Other notable winners included The Bahamas, St Lucia, and Turks and Caicos.

The World Travel Awards, established in 1993, serve as a platform to recognize, reward, and celebrate excellence across all vital sectors of the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries. Today, the World Travel Awards brand stands as a globally recognized symbol of industry excellence.
