Dwayne George to be Launched on Sunday; By-election Date Could be Announced

The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party is set to launch the candidacy of Sen Dwayne George for the upcoming by-elections in St. Mary’s South constituency.

The launch will take place at Bolans Playfield on Sunday.

The party hopes to regain the seat it lost in the January 18 General Elections.

The launch event promises to be lively, with several top local artists scheduled to perform and speeches from senior officials of the ABLP including Political Leader and Prime Minister, Gaston Browne, Party Chairman, E.P Chet Greene, Sir Molwyn Joseph of the neighbouring St. Mary’s North constituency, Education Minister, Daryll Matthew and Utilities Minister Melford Nicholas. Senator George is also expected to give his maiden political address at the event.

Recent polling has shown that Sen. George is gaining popularity among constituents since being announced as the ABLP’s standard bearer in the by-election.

Sen. George, a resident of Bolans, has made an impact with his commitment and generosity in the constituency, donating to schools, families, teenagers, and the elderly.

His personal motto, “George Win, You Win,” reflects his pledge that if elected, he will donate his first six months’ salary to the constituency for community outreach.

Before entering the realm of elective politics, Sen. George was a lecturer at the Antigua State College.

In the past several weeks, he has been canvassing voters in the constituency, aggressively seeking their support in the by-election.

Speculation is rife that the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) will declare the date for the St Mary’s South by-election on Sunday.

ABLP insiders say Prime Minister Gaston Browne, who is also the leader of the ABLP, could make the announcement

However, the United Progressive Party (UPP) will continue with its campaign efforts regardless of the announcement, according to Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle.

Pringle stated that the UPP will continue to lay the groundwork for the re-election of Kelvin ‘Shugy’ Simon, irrespective of when the election is called.

Simon won the constituency’s seat in the January 18 election, replacing the ABLP’s Samantha Marshall.

However, he resigned on June 7, triggering a by-election that must take place within 120 days of the resignation.

Simon said his decision prevented constituents from being negatively impacted by a lengthy legal battle following an election petition filed on behalf of the ABLP questioning his eligibility for office.

Andrew Antonio of the Democratic National Alliance (DNA)is also contesting the by-elections.

ABLP needs to take responsibility and accountability for their dishonest ways. Trying to buy votes. Hopefully Shuggy will blow them out the water, and they will slink away head down and tail between their legs

@Sad But True, You’re are describing Gaston Browne and Dwayne George in your comment. Shugy is God chosen. The voice of God have spoken and it will speak again. Shugy all the way for Saint Mary’s South.
All the ABLP known for is to buy votes, transfer people into the constituency, and bribery.
