As the Caribbean enters its Heat Season, the region can expect an extended period of excessive heat until October, with September being the hottest month.

The Barbados-based CariCOF Heat Outlook for September 2023 to February 2024 has confirmed this forecast.

According to the report, the Heat Season will continue until November, with November being hotter than usual.

The intense daytime and nighttime heat will prevail until October or early November.

The report also suggests that although temperatures may become milder from late November, they will still remain warmer than usual for most of the Caribbean.

The implications of this prolonged heat include frequent and intense episodes of heat stress for vulnerable populations and small livestock.

This is due to high temperatures and peaking humidity through September or October

The report highlights that typically, there are 20 to 30 heatwave days in coastal Guianas, 10 to 15 heatwave days in the Lesser Antilles, and 5 to 10 heatwave days elsewhere.

However, the forecast shows a strong increase in the number of heatwave days on the islands of Barbados, coastal Guianas, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Windward Islands..
