Youth Violence Put the Brakes on Game Fest Finals

By Zaya Williams

Due to the recent surge of youth violence, the organizers of the highly-anticipated Game Fest finals have made the decision to postpone the event.

Game Fest has always prioritized the safety and well-being of all attendees, participants, and staff within a secure and inclusive environment.

While this postponement has disappointed dedicated finalists who have invested significant time and effort into their preparations, it is important to stress that this is only a temporary delay and not a cancellation.

The choice to postpone came after careful consideration, including close monitoring of the situation, and consultations with local authorities and community leaders.

The organizers remain steadfast in delivering the finest gaming experience within a safe and secure environment.

They have rescheduled the finals for October 22 and will continue to collaborate with local authorities, community organizations, and stakeholders to address the issue of youth violence and implement measures to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

With the commencement of the school year just last week, troubling accounts emerged of students becoming embroiled in violent confrontations, some involving using weapons and sharp objects.

The severity of the issue was highlighted when a distressing video surfaced, revealing a group of Ottos Comprehensive School students brandishing sharp weapons during a violent clash near the Little Canton Supermarket.

Subsequently, another video came to light, portraying a disturbing event in which one student was subjected to physical assault, stabbing, and robbery by fellow adolescents.

It is imperative that the safety and welfare of the country’s younger generation be taken seriously.

The organizers of Game Fest stand with the community in addressing this issue, and they remain committed to creating a positive and secure environment for their participants.
