There are concerns that the investigation into the alleged assault of a female police officer by a sitting member of parliament during Carnival festivities may be stalled.
According to a reliable inside source, senior police officers have intervened to prevent the case from moving forward.
The MP, who was allegedly intoxicated, was seen on video grabbing the officer without consent.
Although a summons was filed in court and a warrant was obtained for the MP’s arrest, efforts to apprehend the accused proved unsuccessful as they had allegedly left the country with no known return date.
The source also claimed that the Immigration Department had no record of the accused’s departure.
The female officer who filed the complaint has reported that there has been no progress in the case.
