One Hispanic Man Remains Critical While Another is Stable Following Electrocution at Port

The accident happened here

Two Hispanic men, one from Martin’s Village and the other from Tindale Road, are fighting for their lives at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center after an accident at the port earlier today.

They have been identified as Leandro Payano (25) and Javier Alcantara (32)

According to reports from Darwin Telemaque, General Manager of the Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority, the men whom a cleaning company employed were electrocuted while cleaning the south side of the administrative building

Telemaque, who spoke to reporters from the hospital, said medical officials are currently trying to stabilize the men who received severe burns and other injuries from the accident.

Telemaque said the men were moving a multi-layered scaffold, probably about 40 feet high, when it rolled from the building and slammed into high-tension APUA wire above them, causing them to be electrocuted.

Several members of the Spanish community are currently at the hospital.
