Hurricane Tammy has slammed into Barbuda, unleashing sustained winds of 85 mph and gusts higher than that, causing widespread power outages.
The island has been thrown into darkness, with residents reporting uprooted trees and damage to some homes.
According to Apostle Clifton Francois, who spoke to State Media ABS said, the situation is “really bad” as the storm brought incredibly strong winds and heavy rainfall.
The head resident doctor at Hannah Thomas Hospital, Dr. Jeremy Deazle, has assured the public that the facility is fully prepared to handle any emergency.
He reported that the winds had calmed down for a brief moment as the eye of the hurricane passed over the island. However, the sister island is expected to face another round of the storm’s wrath as other parts of the eyewall hit the shore.
