Local businessman Everod Roberts has generously donated air conditioning units to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre to help patients cope with rising temperatures.
A presentation was held at the hospital where Roberts’ assistant, Desma Granger Sutton, presented on his behalf.
She explained that Roberts was recently hospitalized and is making the presentation for two reasons; firstly, to thank the doctors and nurses who cared for him during his stay, and secondly, to bring relief to the patients at the Pediatric Ward who had to contend with the sweltering heat.
Roberts noticed the young patients struggling in the sweltering heat while he was staying at the hospital, and immediately promised to supply the department with enough A/C units to keep the kids cool during the most intense heatwave.
He felt that the children are not responsible for global warming and ought not to be suffering from its effects. Chair of the Pediatric Department, Dr. Shivon Belle-Jarvis, expressed her gratitude to Roberts for the donation of the A/C units, noting that all will benefit from his generosity.
The units, valued at approximately EC$26,800.00, will be placed in the Pediatric Department and other areas of greatest need at the hospital.
Well needed air conditioning units. Another thing, preventative maintenance is the key to make the hospital equipment last longer and in good operating conditions.
