UWI Global Campus Guild of Students Antigua Wraps Up Successful Week of Activities

The University of the West Indies Global Campus Antigua Guild of Students recently concluded an engaging and successful Week of Activities that aimed to promote a strong sense of community, raise awareness for important issues and celebrate the achievements of the student body.

The eventful week took place from November 12th to November 18th and commemorated the 75th anniversary of the university.

The week started with a worship session at the All-Saints Pentecostal Church on Sunday, November 12th, bringing students together for reflection and unity.

On Monday, November 13th, the Guild organized a Media Day, where students shared their academic journey experiences, creating a sense of camaraderie among the student body.

The Guild of Students took a bold step in environmental advocacy on Tuesday, November 14th, by hosting a tree-planting initiative.

The event received 20 trees from the Ministry of Agriculture and aimed to contribute to environmental sustainability and make a statement on the importance of addressing climate change.

On Wednesday, November 15th, the Guild organized a Blood Drive, emphasizing the critical role of such contributions in saving lives.

Thursday, November 16th, witnessed the Guild of Students collaborating with the Soup Kitchen to serve meals to those in need, exemplifying the guild’s dedication to making a positive impact beyond the university campus.

The Guild hosted a social event for the student body on Friday, November 17th, providing an opportunity for relaxation and socializing after a week filled with meaningful activities.

The grand finale of the Week of Activities took place on Saturday, November 18th, with an Honour Roll Ceremony, where 28 students were recognized and celebrated for their outstanding academic achievements.

The Guild’s commitment to academic excellence was reinforced at the event, and the ceremony was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Agriculture, Trade & Barbuda Affairs, the E.P. Chet Greene, who shared his excitement of being part of the inaugural ceremony hosted by the Global Campus Antigua Site.

A motivational speech was given to the awardees by Mr. Ronald Greenaway, who engaged the attendees with relatable problems they may have encountered throughout the academic year.

The University of the West Indies Global Campus Guild of Students Week of Activities showcased the student body’s diversity of talents and interests while demonstrating the guild’s dedication to fostering a supportive and vibrant community.

The week served as a reminder of the impact that students can make when they come together with a shared vision for positive change.

Overall, the Week of Activities was implemented by the chapter’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Lamin Newton, who expressed gratitude to all who partnered and participated with the Guild to ensure their objectives were achieved.

The Guild of Students 2023/2024 Executives, led by Chairman and Regional Guild President Mr. Olson Browne, expressed gratitude to all participants, organizers, and the community for their overwhelming support.

The Week of Activities has set the stage for ongoing initiatives that will continue to make a positive impact, and the Guild of Students’ unwavering commitment to serving the students of the UWI Global Campus has been renewed.
