The Vatican announced that Pope Francis was admitted to the hospital on Saturday to undergo tests after he contracted the flu.
However, the results showed no signs of any respiratory problems. Vatican spokesperson, Matteo Bruni, confirmed that Francis, who had one lung removed in his youth, underwent a CAT scan at the Gemelli hospital in Rome where he had previously been treated for a respiratory infection earlier this year.
The test was conducted to exclude any potential respiratory problems and the findings were negative.
The Vatican had previously announced that the Pope had cancelled his audiences due to the flu.
Despite this, Francis still plans to travel to Dubai for the COP28 conference on climate change next Friday.
Bruni provided no information on any changes to his plans, and the Vatican gave new details about his itinerary, indicating that the trip is still on.
Last April, Francis spent three days at the Gemelli hospital for bronchitis-related issues after experiencing difficulties breathing.
He was later discharged after receiving intravenous antibiotics. Francis was hospitalized for ten days in July 2021 for intestinal surgery to address bowel narrowing.
He was readmitted in June of this year for an operation to repair an abdominal hernia and remove scarring from previous surgeries. In a recent interview, when asked about his health, Francis humorously responded with his typical line, “Still alive, you know.”
