Dominique Bird Selected for International Summit

30 November 2023 - 13:09

Ms Dominique Bird, a second-year Liberal Arts student at Antigua State College, has been selected to attend the International Student Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi from 28 November to 1 December 2023.

Bird was chosen from over 4,700 applicants worldwide, and she received a partial fellowship to attend the event. Around 650 young leaders from around the world will also be there. Bird is honored to have a voice in this important and influential forum and has been given an opportunity to make a presentation on water and sanitation.

She looks forward to engaging with other young leaders on topics such as the environment, climate change, and how young people can make a difference. Antigua State College and the Government of Antigua & Barbuda have supported Bird’s participation in the event.

The government played an essential role in providing assistance for the travel expenses not covered by the fellowship. Bird is currently taking several Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) courses, including Environmental Science and Green Engineering.

Her career goal is to cultivate greater awareness of environmental issues and have a thorough understanding of the impact of climate change. She has demonstrated a high level of commitment to the environment, climate, and conservation, volunteering regularly with the Environmental Awareness Group and participating in various environmental activities.
