The surge in gun violence has prompted a senior officer to raise concern about the likely impact these types of criminal activities may have on children who are left behind.

Superintendent Lisborn Michael spoke on the matter recently saying, “there are several persons who have lost their lives and left a lot of children”.

He said this becoming a major problem and further questions.,” Who is going to be responsible for those persons just to ensure they become decent citizens of Antigua and Barbuda? The deceased persons, who he has already gone to those two accused, will be incarcerated,” the senior officer said/

His comments come in the aftermath of the daylight shooting that claimed the life of Clifford Micah Watt, a father of three from Greenbaby Hill. Watt was fatally shot, prompting a police investigation to apprehend the assailant.

Preliminary reports suggest that Watt was allegedly involved in a dispute with an individual outside his residence on Tuesday morning. The reasons for their altercation remain unclear.

The unidentified individual, with whom Clifford Watt had the altercation, departed and returned around 9 AM with a suspected accomplice. The accomplice entered Watt’s property and proceeded to open fire on the house.

During this incident, the gunman encountered Watt, firing multiple shots before fleeing the scene. Clifford Watt was swiftly transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where authorities pronounced him dead.

In light of this tragic event, the police are soliciting the public’s cooperation to share any information that could aid in resolving the recent homicide. Those with knowledge of the incident are urged to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913 or the Crimestoppers Hotline at 800-TIPS (8477).
