Antigua and Barbuda’s Foreign Affairs Minister E.P Chet Greene
Foreign Affairs Minister EP Chet Greene, says the government plans to appoint Honorary Consuls in several countries, including Jamaica, Guyana, and Barbados.
The main objective behind this decision is to provide better services and support to the Antiguan nationals residing in these territories.
He said the current numbers of Antiguan nationals in these areas are few, and hence, the appointment of Honorary Consuls will ensure that they receive adequate assistance and guidance whenever
“We are looking forward to Honorary Consuls in these three territories very soon in the New Year,” the minister revealed during an interview on Pointe FM Monday.
The ministry is also aiming, for the first time to establish an Embassy in China.
“This will be for the benefit of our citizens and students who are in that capital. China continues to be our main international partner and we are the only country in the Eastern Caribbean that does not have an embassy in China. We will be opening the embassy in a matter of weeks to add to the level of support that we can provide,” the minister outlined.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Affairs Minister is also applauding the efforts of Antiguan and Barbudan Diplomats serving in all parts of the world.
He saluted all for their tireless work in promoting the country’s ideals and maintaining its image.
Antigua’s Ambassador to the UN Dr. Walton Webson, High Commissioner of Antigua and Barbuda to the UK, Karen Mae Hill, and Sir Ron Sanders US ambassador.
“I want to say to the Diplomats, thank you, thank you for your hard work in protecting, preserving, and certainly promoting Antigua and Barbuda I will single some of them out because they would have stood out in 2023. Aubrey Webson is one of those Ambassadors that in 2023 stood tall, I am so thrilled, so satisfied.
“High Commissioner Karen Mae Hill in the UK. I think as a young ambassador she continues to show that she is cut for this job. It makes me proud to meet with her peers in the UK. Ambassador Ron Sanders, I think he is the most senior of all our diplomats and I want to say thanks to him for the things I learned in the Foreign Ministry,” the minister said.
He credits Sir Ron for his role in assisting him to take on the mantle as the newly minted minister.
