The Ministry of Agriculture Headquarters is set to relocate to its temporary location on Nugent Avenue in the early days of the upcoming year.
Agriculture Minister EP Chet Greene confirmed that the relocation process has already begun and is expected to conclude by the first week of January 2024.
The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda recently revealed that the relocation is necessary to carry out extensive repairs on the offices near Country Pond.
As part of the relocation, workers from the General Post Office will also be shifted to the same premises at the Sir Cuthwin Lake Center at a later point in time.
“I think it is only appropriate and proper that I give thanks to the Ministry for having consented to the use of the building as we try to fix the existing problem at the Ministry of Agriculture. The workers, I must also show appreciation for their commitment to service, they are engaged in the physical movement,” the minister said.
These protests have been carried out at various intervals, with the workers, who are predominantly women, highlighting the inadequate facilities for their basic needs as a major concern.
In light of this, Minister Greene has proposed the construction of a modernized building that will take considerable time and resources to complete.
The new building will cater to the needs of the employees, providing them with improved working conditions that meet the required standards.
Furthermore, the minister supports the idea of establishing a centralized complex that will provide a one-stop-shop for various government operations. This approach will help to reduce the costs associated with renting multiple facilities, thereby saving taxpayers’ money.
