Antigua and Barbuda proudly showcased its maritime talent as Emily Gaillard and Ozani Lafond represented the nation at the World Sailing Youth World Championship in Buzios, Brazil, held from December 8 to 15.
Competing in the ILCA 6 Female and Male one Person Dinghy categories, the young sailors demonstrated remarkable skill on the international stage.
Ozani Lafond achieved an impressive 26th place out of 49 participants, delivering standout performances with a 10th and 15th as his best results. His remarkable achievement is a testament to the prowess of Antiguan youth sailors in a world-class championship.
Meanwhile, Emily Gaillard secured the 41st position out of 45 competitors, facing formidable conditions that challenged even sailors of her stature. Her best finishes were a 22nd and 28th in the demanding races.
The World Sailing Youth World Championship is renowned for its intense competition, attracting sailors from 61 countries.
The event, featured races with varying wind conditions, ranging from light to heavy, providing thrilling contests and close finishes.
Both Gaillard and Lafond, also participated in the Emerging Nations Coaching program from December 2 to 7, generously supported by ABSA and World Sailing.
Accompanied by their coach, Karl James, and a dedicated support team, the Antiguan sailors made their mark on the global sailing stage.
