Antigua and Barbuda has recently hosted a group of German students pursuing a career in tourism and hospitality for a unique internship program called ‘Practice in Paradise’.
The program, aimed at promoting Antigua and Barbuda within German-speaking countries, lasted for two months, starting on January 7, 2024, and involved eight students from the Dr.Kalscheuer private vocational school in Traunstein, Germany, along with their lecturer Nadine Farghaly.
The group was warmly welcomed by a delegation of officials, including the German Consul for Antigua and Barbuda, Torsten Stenzel, Ralf G. Hansen, Antigua and Barbuda’s Special Economic Envoy in Bavaria/Germany, Javier Jacobs, Operations Manager from the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority (ABTA), and Francine Joseph, Tourism Officer from the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, at the V.C. Bird International Airport.
During their seven-week stay, the students spent six weeks interning at three different resorts namely Hodges Bay Resort and Spa, Tamarind Hills, and Jolly Beach Resort and Spa.
The program allowed them to gain practical experience in their field of study while enjoying a week-long vacation in paradise.
Overall, this internship program has not only provided valuable international exposure to the German students but has also helped promote Antigua and Barbuda as a top tourism destination among German-speaking countries.
