The 2024 Cool and Smooth Interschool Basketball League edition was officially opened on Thursday afternoon at the JSC Sports Complex.

It was a sea of colors as the male and female junior athletes paraded the complex in their colors and various teams.

Six division titles will be up for grabs in the Miniboys Primary, Minigirls Primary, Miniboys Secondary, Junior Boys, Senior Girls and Senior Boys categories.

Already, Antigua Grammar School (AGS) sent a clear message that they mean business this time in the Miniboys Secondary section trouncing Clare Hall Secondary School (CHSS) 33-10 in the season’s opening encounter.

Joshua Joseph led all scorers with 11 points. He was assisted by Daijon George, who netted five points to secure the win.

Clare Hall’s Dwayne Emanuel had five points in a losing effort.

St. Joseph’s Academy (SJA) are the defending champions in this category having defeated AGS in the finals last year at the inaugural Night of Champions event.

Night of Champions will return on March 24th at JSC, where the six finals in the six divisions will be played.

Interschool Basketball Coordinator Carl ‘Bowlie’ Knight announced during his address at the opening ceremony on Thursday.

Cedar Grove Primary are the Miniboys and Minigirls Primary champions, CHSS the Junior Boys champs, All Saints Secondary School (ASSS) the Senior Girls champions and Princess Margaret School (PMS) the Senior Boys champs.

Games will continue on Monday afternoon at 2:15 pm with SJA taking on AGS in the Miniboys Secondary category.

Ottos Comprehensive School (OCS) and Antigua State College (ASC) will battle it out at 3:15pm, and an hour later, AGS and Sir Novelle Richards Academy will face off both in the Senior Boys division.
