As of March 1, commercial consumers on the island will begin paying more for water.
Information Minister Melford Nicholas disclosed this during Thursday’s Post-Cabinet Press briefing.
“I am not going to go out of the memory bank because I do not want any incorrect number given but I will certainly ask the General Manager and the Corporate Communications Team to makes themselves available in the public’s sphere to discuss this matter fully but the Cabinet has already given its consent,” the minister told Reporters.
Minister Nicholas added that residents will also be required to pay more after significant improvements have been made to boost supply.
“The intention is to ensure that we remove all of the deficit as a result of any lack of production, we will remove those first, and then we will move to the new rates,” he said.
The government has been alluding to an imminent increase for quite a while now, especially as the nation continues its transition to Reverse Osmosis Plants due to the shortage of surface water during the dry season.
