The lecture room at the AUA Campus in Antigua and Barbuda was filled with enthusiastic citizens and residents for the first meeting of prospective volunteers for the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4).
The meeting was graced by several top officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including the EP Chet Greene, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and his Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Anthony Liverpool.
The Chief of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Volunteer Coordinator for the Conference, Anika Kentish, were also present to share important information with the attendees.
The response to the volunteer call was overwhelming, and Minister Greene expressed his appreciation for the attendees’ patriotism and selfless duty to their beloved country.
The United Nations Volunteer Programme’s Peru Country Coordinator, Oscar Malaga, visited during the meeting and held several meetings with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Secretariat for the Conference.
The goal of these meetings was to advise on the training process for the volunteers and plot out the timetable for these exercises. Miss Cabrall also shared some of this information during Thursday’s Volunteer meeting and advised on the various areas where volunteers could contribute their latent talents and skills.
The meeting allowed attendees to better understand the conference, share their skills and interests, and receive direction on the registration process.
As the meeting concluded, attendees were reminded of the magnitude of the SIDS4 Conference, which is expected to draw over 5000 individuals, including world leaders, international partners, and leading experts in several important fields to SIDS.
The conference will serve as a platform for the international community to unite to support Small Island Developing States and propose solutions to bolster their path to resilient prosperity.
