Antigua and Barbuda students shines at medical school in Cuba

18 February 2024 - 21:28

Five students from Antigua and Barbuda have recently graduated from one of the top medical schools in Cuba, the University of Medical Sciences in Holguin.

According to the Antigua and Barbuda Ambassador to Cuba, George Goodwin, these students were singled out by the institution as being exceptionally disciplined and producing high academic results.

In fact, one of the students, Dr. Phillescia Jean, was awarded honours and was the top foreign student in the graduating class.

Upon their return to Antigua, the newly-minted medical doctors will undergo a year-long internship/orientation at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre before being able to practice on their own.

The other four doctors are Dr. Lee-Ann Sandy, Dr. Doniece Thomas, Dr. Jason Thwaites, and Dr. Grace Edwards.

It is certainly a proud moment for Antigua and Barbuda, as these five students have achieved an impressive feat by graduating from one of the top medical schools in Cuba with such high accolades.

They will undoubtedly contribute significantly to the healthcare sector of their home country with the knowledge and expertise they have gained.
