National bodybuilder Kenroy Christian has successfully secured a court order for the return of over $170,000 seized by the Office of National Drug and Money Laundering Control Policy (ONDCP) during a search of his premises.
The ruling, delivered by Magistrate Dane Hamilton, marks the end of a protracted legal battle.
The ONDCP had seized $172,736.65 from Christian’s premises on June 15, 2022, during a search related to suspected drug and firearm activities.
During the operation, they discovered and seized the substantial sum of money, believing it to be unlawfully obtained.
Following the initial seizure, the ONDCP applied to the court for continued detention of the funds. The court granted this request, leading to a series of detention orders that extended into June 2023.
Despite this, Christian was never charged with any crime, and the funds were not returned.
Christian, represented by attorney Wendel Alexander, contested the ONDCP’s actions.
Magistrate Hamilton found in favor of Christian, determining that the ONDCP had unlawfully held the cash.
Despite the ONDCP’s efforts to detain the money and seek its forfeiture, Christian, who has not been charged with any crime, has now succeeded in securing the return of his funds.
