Leader of the Opposition Jamal Pringle
The leader of the opposition, MP Jamale Pringle, has proposed a solution to the Gaston Browne Administration regarding the issue of tax compliance among businesses.
The government has reported that a significant amount of revenue is being withheld from its coffers due to delinquent businesses that fail to remit their taxes.
Pringle has recommended that the government host a symposium to bring together business owners from different sectors and allow them to voice their concerns.
By doing so, the government will be able to understand the challenges businesses face and develop tailored strategies that will assist them.
This would ultimately result in companies remitting their taxes regularly.
The opposition leader believes such outreach is necessary as it is unfair that only some businesses shoulder the burden of tax compliance while others do not.
“Let us have a symposium session with the sector and try to get everyone to discuss their challenges and see how we can bring everyone under the umbrella of paying. It is not fair to those people who are paying and then some are not paying yet I have to find the money in a shorter time to pay, so I am going to put my customers under due rest…” he said
Pringle said it could turn customers off and “we begin to lose business.”
Pringle suggests that the Browne Administration doesn’t take the business community seriously. However, the private sector is the engine of growth in any economy.
