No progress yet in hit and run case

Katja Geisler, the accused in a hit-and-run incident involving Guadeloupean fisherman William Nouy, is still awaiting news on whether the police have gathered enough evidence against her, nearly two years after the incident occurred.

The incident, which took place in June 2022 at the Falmouth Harbour Marina, saw Nouy being struck by a vehicle allegedly driven by Geisler, who then fled the scene.

Nouy, who was in the country for the annual Antigua and Barbuda Sports Fishing Tournament, suffered severe brain injuries and had to be airlifted back to Guadeloupe for treatment.

Geisler was promptly arrested and charged with dangerous driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

She appeared in court shortly after the incident and has since been awaiting her committal hearing, where Magistrate Dexter Wason will determine if there is enough evidence to proceed to trial in the High Court.

However, during her recent court appearance, it was revealed that the police are not yet prepared to proceed with the case, leaving Geisler’s fate in limbo as the legal process drags on.
