The Ministry of Education, Sports and Creative Industries is all set to organize the National Literacy Festival in 2024, which will be a grand platform to promote literacy within communities and create awareness about the importance of effective listening and spelling.

The Director of Education, Clare Browne, has urged schools to come up with impactful activities on the 8th of March, 2024, that will benefit their communities.

A communiqué has been sent to the principals of public and private secondary schools, suggesting the hosting of literacy fairs, marches, workshops, and other planned events with the theme “Promoting literacy in our communities for a sustainable tomorrow.”

The National Literacy Festival is an integral part of Education Month, 2024, and is aimed at highlighting the many literacy challenges and problems that exist in our local communities and are evident among students.

The objective of the festival is to raise awareness and concern about these challenges and problems.

The festival will be a platform to showcase various activities that will help in promoting literacy, and it is hoped that it will create a positive impact on the communities in Antigua and Barbuda.

The literacy festival will be celebrated across public and primary schools in Antigua and Barbuda, and it will focus on the importance of listening and spelling as crucial components of literacy.

The theme of the festival in these schools will be “Promoting literacy for personal growth – Effective listening and spelling for all.”

The Education Officer-Language Arts, Dr. Desryn Collins, has informed primary school principals that the festival will emphasize the need for effective listening and conventional spelling.

Education Month 2024 kicked off on March 5th, 2024, and it is being observed under the theme “Re-Imaging Education, Colouring Outside the Lines.”
