Illegal dumping continues to be a problem in Antigua and Barbuda.

The National solid waste management authority (NSWMA) took to social media to advise residents against it.

It said “Illegal dumping isn’t just an environmental hazard; in some cases, it’s a threat to our privacy and security and can be damaging to both companies and individuals. Let’s safeguard our surroundings and sensitive information by disposing of waste responsibly.

“Together, we can protect both our environment and our privacy,” they added.

An individual caught littering in public could be made to pay a fine of $3000 or spend a year in prison.

A corporate body would be liable to pay $15,000 as according to the Litter Control and Prevention Act of 2019.
