On International Women’s Day 2024, I, E. P. Chet Greene, Chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party, stand united with women around our country in celebrating their achievements, highlighting their contributions and advocating for their rights.

Yesterday we acknowledge the remarkable resilience, intelligence and unwavering determination of women who have paved the way for progress in every aspect of our society. Their strength knows no bounds and their voices deserve to be heard, amplified and respected.

However, we must also recognize that gender inequality remains a persistent challenge that hinders the full realization of women’s potential. It is our moral duty to create an environment where every woman can thrive, free from discrimination, violence and economic disparities.

To achieve this, we must continue our relentless efforts to break down the barriers of gender bias and prejudice. We must champion equal access to education, healthcare and economic opportunities for all women.

Through inclusive policies, comprehensive legislation, and effective implementation, we can empower women to reach their fullest potential and contribute meaningfully to our society’s growth.

Let us use International Women’s Day as a milestone to recommit ourselves to the cause of gender equality. Let us ensure that no woman is left behind or silenced.

Together, we can build a future where every girl child dreams without limitations, every woman enjoys full agency over her life and every corner of our nation reflects the values of inclusion, empathy and respect.

Every day, let us stand as allies, advocates and champions for women’s rights. Let us challenge the status quo, dismantle patriarchal norms and create a world where women are celebrated, valued and given the equal opportunities they deserve.
