The Government of Barbuda is taking steps to fast-track the opening of the new airport on the island.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne and a team of government officials met on Monday with representatives of the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA) to discuss the airport’s status.

Development Commissioner Ambassador Daven Joseph revealed that the meeting resulted in a dual-track approach to attaining international status for the airport while also allowing domestic flights to commence.

Ambassador Joseph explained that the airport’s opening is critical for evacuation, especially with the approaching hurricane season.

As such, the plan being envisaged takes into account the need to open up the airport to be able to accept international flights.

These arrangements fall within what Amb. Joseph describes as an agreement between the ECCAA and the government to quickly finalize all outstanding matters standing in the way of the airport’s opening

The airport in Barbuda has been completed for several months now, but its formal opening has been delayed as officials await word from ECCAA regarding the airport meeting its regulatory obligations for the operations of an airport.

However, with the government’s green light to work along with ECCAA, it is expected that the airport will soon attain the required international and domestic standards.

Growth is expected in the domestic sector shortly, making the airport’s certification even more vital.

A rush on the airstrip in Barbuda to be open so all the crooks around the world like Gaston and Cutie need to hide out in Barbuda. When Gaston travels overseas it is not too much about Antigua economy, it is about Gaston himself and his greed for wealth.
People of Antigua, especially, please take back your country from Gaston before it’s too late. Do like your neighboring Haitians and get him out of office, now. A lot of Jamaicans living in Antigua who has the same mentality like the Haitians, utilize them.
