On Tuesday, the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with two other ministries, organized a one-day Agro-Expo event that was held at the Botanical Gardens.
The event aimed to showcase the remarkable work being done by agricultural science students within the education system and to raise public awareness that agriculture is still a thriving industry.
The event was a resounding success, with over 700 students from pre-school to secondary school participating and displaying live animals and agricultural produce.
The teamwork between the Ministry of Education, Agriculture, and Social Transformation was critical to the event’s success, highlighting the importance of leadership, teamwork, and proper structures.
Nicolette Francis, the Education Officer responsible for Agriculture, expressed her satisfaction with the enthusiasm shown by ministry officials, teachers, and students.
She plans to conduct a post mortem with her team shortly to review the event’s success and identify areas for improvement.
The event also included a backyard gardening competition among the schools, divided into three categories: pre-school, primary school, and secondary school.
Winners in each category received prizes donated by Prime Minister Gaston Browne and Education Minister Daryll Matthew. Old Road Primary School was the overall winner.
Furthermore, the Environment Division used the event as an opportunity to distribute over 100 fruit tree plants.
The event’s success, particularly in attracting pre-school children, may spark an interest in agriculture among future generations, benefiting the country’s agricultural industry in the long run.
