The case of the young man charged with the murder of Syrian Roudi Shmaly has been committed to the May assizes.

Jahsiba Shoy – the second individual charged in connection with the tragic murder that took place in May 2023- is facing charges alongside a 16-year-old boy who has been in remand since earlier this year after appearing before the court.

The victim, twenty-five-year-old Shmaly, met a tragic end during a daytime robbery at Pick ‘n Mix Mart on Desouza Road on May 22 last year.

Shoy recently appeared in the St. John’s Magistrates’ Court, facing charges of murder and aggravated robbery.

His case has been forwarded to the High Court, where he will be required to answer to the charges at a later date. In the meantime, Shoy remains in remand.
