Ian Joseph re-elected to lead taxi association

4 April 2024 - 08:24

Ian Joseph, a former President of the United Taxi Company (UTC), has been elected to lead the association serving the international airport for the fourth time.

The election process commenced early morning on Wednesday with 49 out of 70 members casting their vote.

Notably, none of the outgoing executive members, including the former president Henley Daniel, participated in the election.

The newly-elected executive team includes some experienced members and fresh faces.

Dwayne Francis, Emelda Frank, Clarence Broody, and Keithroy Benjamin have been elected as Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Public Relations Officer, respectively.

Leon George, Darren Jeremiah, Andy Henry, and Bernadette Jarvis will serve as floor members and trustees.

The new executive members will serve for a year and will be required to repair relations with members after a long-standing conflict between service operators and airport drivers’ management, which had led to strike threats.

Last year, more than 50 percent of the members signed a petition to remove the previous executive, who they accused of creating a hostile environment and causing divisions among them.
