The upcoming fourth Small Island Developing States Conference (SIDS4) in Antigua will provide expedited airport services and other specialized arrangements for delegates.
The government of Antigua and Barbuda has decided to offer special immigration and customs lines to the attendees, as well as designated taxi cabs and buses to transport them to their respective accommodations.
Furthermore, the government has taken additional measures to ensure the comfort and safety of the conference attendees. Accommodation, transportation, and security arrangements have been made, with Airbnb listings, houses, and apartments being identified using a graded system (A, B, and C) with daily rates ranging from $200 to $280.
Certified taxi operators will be engaged, and private security and retired police officers will supplement law enforcement efforts.
The healthcare facilities will operate 24 hours a day, with additional medical support on standby.
Despite a decrease in anticipated guest numbers from 5,000 to over 3,000 due to limited flights, authorities are confident that the additional accommodations will be sufficient for the conference.
The SIDS4 conference aims to address the economic challenges faced by small island nations battling climate change.
With the theme “Charting the Course Toward Resilient Prosperity,” the event is scheduled to be held in Antigua and Barbuda from May 27-30, 2024.
