Antigua Cruise Port is set to commence construction on a new terminal for the St. Harbour, which will process cruise passengers starting in May. Rawle Reynolds, the Operations Manager, said the terminal is essential, particularly in light of the new emphasis on home-porting as part of the cruise tourism business.

The new terminal will be adjacent to the 5th Berth pier on Newgate Street but not on the pier so that cruise passengers can enter it to be processed.

The facility will be similar to the airport’s terminal building, but it will process passengers who arrive or depart from a cruise ship.

Mr. Reynolds stated that the terminal will handle thousands of passengers during visits from vessels such as Arvia of P&O Cruises. Passengers can check in or check out with the presence of border control officers representing immigration and customs.

In the last two seasons, these activities took place under a large tent, but the time has come for a more permanent structure to handle these arrangements.

The terminal building will form part of a major land-side development that ACP will undertake.

The complex will be erected on lands running from the carpark on Lower Newgate Street to Barnes Funeral Home, which will relocate ahead of the development.

The construction of the terminal is a crucial move for the Antigua Cruise Port as it will cater to the growing demands of cruise tourism business and enhance the passenger’s experience.`
