The United Progressive Party (UPP) is gearing up for its 12th Biennial Convention, which is set to kick off with a grand ceremony on Saturday, April 20, at 6 PM at the Multipurpose Centre.
The Convention, which will be held under the theme “Together in Unity: Forward to Victory,” is aimed at fostering unity among party leaders, members, and supporters, in recognition of the fact that a united front is essential for improving the quality of life for all Antiguans and Barbudans.
The Opening Ceremony of the Convention promises to be an exciting event, which will feature three innovative Caribbean change-makers: Antiguan, Commissioner Dion Irish, Chief of Operations for the City of Boston, MA, Ms. Mickela Panday, former M.P. from Trinidad and Tobago, and Dr. Thomson Fontaine, Political Leader of the UWP in Dominica.
The ceremony will also include speeches by Senator Damion Crawford from Jamaica, Hon. Trevor Walker, M.P. for Barbuda, and UPP Political Leader Hon. Jamale Pringle.
Convention Week has been designed as a platform for education, inspiration, and collaboration. According to Harold Lovell, Chair of the Convention Planning Committee, the week-long event will provide an opportunity for party members and supporters to come together and celebrate their achievements, as well as to discuss the party’s vision for the future.
The week’s activities include a Thanksgiving Service, Media Day, and Games Night.
Lovell is confident that the Convention will be a unifying event, which will highlight the Party’s accomplishments and vision for the future.
He believes that it will be an opportunity to witness democracy in action as party members chart the course to victory. Lovell stated that “Our members and supporters are energized to work together to create a better future that will uplift all Antiguans and Barbudans.”
The convention’s Opening Ceremony is open to the general public.
It is expected to attract hundreds of attendees and viewers and will feature entertainment by the Kutting Eddge Band.
Convention Week will end with the business session on Sunday, April 21, during which a new Central Executive Committee will be elected to run the UPP’s affairs for the next two years.
