On Tuesday afternoon, LIAT 2020 celebrated a major milestone with the arrival of two brand-new ERU-145 jets at the VC Bird International Airport.
The planes were welcomed with a grand water cannon salute and will soon be added to the current LIAT fleet of five other aircraft.
The Aviation Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Charles Fernandez, expressed his pride in this momentous occasion.
He believes that with the addition of these two jets, along with another one and three ATR, which the government is putting into the mix, LIAT 2020 will become the pride of the Caribbean.
Fernandez went on to explain that this launch would have a significant impact on the tourism sector in the region, making LIAT 2020 the go-to airline for regional travel.
He believes that competition will make it great for travelers and ultimately benefit Antigua and Barbuda as a hub for connecting flights. Currently, LIAT 2020 is awaiting its Air Operators Certificate (AOC), but it has already started demo flights, which are being supervised by the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA).
With the arrival of these two-jet aircraft, the airline has taken a significant step forward and is closer to its goal of becoming the leading airline in the Caribbean.
