Ex-LIAT workers are offered a compensation package including up to EC$75,000 each, with additional benefits such as government bonds, plots of land, and UWI Scholarships for their children or spouses calculated into the value.
During a recent Cabinet meeting, the members discussed the progress of LIAT (2020) Ltd. and expressed satisfaction with the recent arrival of two aircraft at the V.C. Bird International Airport on April 23, 2024, dispatched by Air Peace.
These aircraft are intended to augment the LIAT (2020) fleet, which is expected to have as many as six aircraft in total.
The Cabinet members recognized the challenges that the Government of Antigua and Barbuda had to overcome to get to this point, where the new airline is on the verge of taking to the skies.
They also expressed confidence that the airline will be successful in the marketplace.
The Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA) is in the final stages of granting the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) that will allow the airplanes to begin commercial services. This process is expected to be completed in a few weeks.
During the meeting, the Cabinet reiterated the government’s offer of 32% compensation to former LIAT (1974) Ltd. employees.
